We are delighted to announce that Nansen Primary School has met the standard for UNICEF UK’S Rights Respecting School Award at Silver: Rights Aware
We had previously been awarded bronze status in recognition of the awareness raised within our curriculum and ethos as being a ‘Rights Respecting School’.
Aspiring to achieve the Silver Rights Aware Award, UNICEF RRSA Professional Advisor Hilary Alcock spent the day at Nansen. Hilary’s visit included meeting with senior teachers, staff, parents and students in a series of lessons and a pupil focus group. Written evidence was provided, outlining how the school fulfilled the criteria to meet the UNICEF strands;
“All adult stakeholders clearly articulated their commitment to embedding a rights respecting approach throughout the school. The Headteacher emphasised that working within and making known the CRC is being developed, and increasingly accepted, as a positive and effective way for the school to improve community cohesion. “The whole ethos has changed and is now more community focused.”
Hilary Alcock, Professional Advisor for UNICEF UK
“The achievement of Silver Rights Aware status is a culmination of a lot of hard work from both staff and students in embedding the UNCRC (The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child) alongside our CORE values throughout Nansen. We are delighted to have gained this accreditation and our next step is to continue to work hard as we aim towards achieving the Gold; Rights Respecting status next year.”
